I went to Pusan by riding KTX, a fast train in Korea. Had a ceminar at Pusan Univ., and met my friend, a producer at CJ Entertainment.

Pusan Univ. is built by this one pastor back in post-Korean War time. I've watched his story through thismone documentary. It was so inspiring. Great man knows how to create great generation in future.

Someone said, 'My best art work is always next one in future.' I say, it's true. However I feel it has made me careless on my past art works and pieces. I never really ever have loved or proud of what I've done in past. My art works are piled up somewhere, and digital files are stored on somewhere where my memory can't reach.

10 years ago(I was 19), I wrote this one script and poured out my 2 years of efforts and sleepless nights into it from storyboard to edit, to create an animation film at CalArts, which is a piece, 'Beautiful Dream.' After completing it, it didn't really get any applause or recognition. I didn't really care. As always, I moved on, and once again I've forgot about this piece for a long time of period.

Today, I've found this piece on DV tape in my shelves. By friend's help, I was able to restore it into digital. I've watched it back, and felt 'yaik!' It's surely my shameful student film from long ago. But still! I hope you enjoy it, and tell me what terrible part was. I'm sure I will agree with you =)

I'm on 3 weeks of hiatus from Fox, spending much quality time with my wife and baby at home. I recently had a chance to work on this one pilot prime time show. It was produced by the producer of 'The Office' series on NBC. 'The Office' is my most favorite show, I was so glad to have a chance to work and show my storyboard to the one who's in charge of my fav. show. I hope this pilot makes through to series in near future. =)

Recently, I've had a chance to do some board work on very intriguing action show, 'Generator Rex' by Cartoon Network. Rex is a very attractive character, he can transform his body into several different weapons. Sounds similar to a kid from Ben10, but I sort of like Rex better than Ben. Long time ago, I took a storyboard test to get some freelance at 'Mighty B' show. I didn't make it after all, but I've enjoyed boarding with this energetic character. I've pulled out some of my favorite shots that I come up with on the test. (I was told to use Photoshop, but instead I used Storyboard Pro (since it's the way to go). I was informed the reason that I didn't qualify was my style didn't match their show...)

This year's February was a great month to enjoy the winter olympic at Vancouver, Canada. I've enjoyed the thrill, watching national players competing each other for a medal. Mostly, I've cheered for S. Korean players to win the race. When they win a medal or bread the record, overwhelming tears and joyful shouts could be found from the players.

Yuna Kim couldn't resist to show tears of joy and relieve from overcoming the pressure after her long program figure skating.

One of memorable moments was Yuna Kim's story on figure skating competition. She had a tremendous pressure from all Korean people expectation to win the gold medal. Her rival, Asada Mao from Japan, was right behind her record, and she was only 19 years old!, so young to carry such a big pressure on her shoulder. She cleaned both short and long program, and she broke the world record of Woman's Figure Skating. After the program, she cried on the ice link for first time of her life. What a moment to see a human overcomes the limit and grabs a triumph and victory. She ended up being a gold medalist.

It was great to watch Korea or even some other countries where Winter Sports is minor, to accomplish unbelievable stories of victory. They really have inspired me a lot. And I've realized the color of the medal is not really important. I was very impressed to see players encouraging each other after the race. It wasn't about who becomes a winner or loser. What a spirit of true sports!

Those players face another 4 years of hard training, and probably not many people will remember them until next olympic. They will pour out all of their energy and sweats to pull their limit up more. There will be no more cheering and giving attentions to them, but they will continue on. I love Yuna Kim's quote on interview after the competition. She mentioned that she remembers in her life, her joyful moment was short and passed quickly, hard time of training with sweats and overcoming took most of times of her life.

I've learned without efforts, there's no victory to inspire people.

I've got a great opportunity to work on some pilot show as a storyboard artist for Disney TV Animation recently. I've received a contract package by mail. And as soon as I've saw a mickey mouse logo on the package mail, I thought it's kinda meaningful. Because it's officially my first time working for Disney after many years of pursuit in animation field.

In my childhood in 90's, I was always fascinated by Disney feature animation and Saturday morning cartoons (of course, along with cool Japanese Anime.) Disney animation was always excited me and burned my heart with passion and joy toward animation. Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Tarzan, Lion King and many TV cartoon shows, they were great inspiration to my life. Later, I decided to become an animator, and started to pursuit a dream from a year of 2000. I can't deny Disney was one of major reasons that inspired me begin a life-time journey as an animation artist.

And here I am grateful to have an opportunity to work for Disney. I thank God.

World Cup Countdown!

Today, I've watched FIFA World Cup Draw, and finally all the groups are set. Korea Rep. team is in B Group with Argentina, Nigeria, and Greece. It's not a best group, but pretty okay for Korea to have a chance to go next round of tournament. As the World Cup date approaches, I'm on soccer mode all over. I even bought 'FIFA 10' xbox game. Next Summer will be fun season again for me and for every soccer fan around the world. I can't wait.

My prediction on tournament.

I went to Ssam Zi St. at In Sa Town, Seoul, Korea. I found a very interesting shop where they cut the stone and make you a name stamp. The works of designers were very fine and attracted me to buy one eventually. I spent about 45 dollars to get my name on that stone stamp. I asked the designer if he can make a english name stamp, and he said, 'sure.' This stamp is one of my favorite gifts that I brought home from Seoul. I like it a lot.

Shin Sa Dong in Seoul, Korea has many beautiful cafes, bars and art galleries. I could see a lot of artistic stuffs there. The street was very crowded with young people who dress very nice and look cool. I was very overwhelmed by surrounded atmosphere at Shin Sa Dong. I went there with my couple of friends who toured Seoul together. We sat at the balcony of one beautifully designed modern style of cafe, and I just had to record the moment on my sketchbook.

During three weeks of time off from work, Dana and I had our second wedding in Seoul, Korea. It was a sun shine beautiful day, we had our ceremony in Korean traditional wedding style. Korean traditional wedding was actually fun, Dana and I enjoyed it a lot. Even though it was on friday, a weekday, thankfully many about 300 people came to congratulate us. I once again would like to give my regard to those our friends who made it to our wedding. During the vacation in Seoul and Hong Kong, I've done some sketches of people living in a different world and culture. I'll post up some of them on the blog soon.

While I was editing my wedding video, I gathered all the G.a band footage and put them together on the Korean pop, 'Marry me,' which is what G.a band performed at my wedding. They are Korean American teenagers whom I'd taught at my previous church.

I and Dana had went to Fire Fly restaurant yesterday in South Pasadena. They kindly opened the restaurant and donated 50% of the income for people who go to mission to India from Mosaic. I had this shrimp and gratis, a little pricy food. It tasted all right for me.

I've found these images that struck my eyes and heart. I couldn't stay away my attention from it. An Ethiopian boy is drinking a dirt water on the ground after a long drought. I feel so shame myself and sorry for the boy in Africa. I always think about my own needs with complains, and now I come to realize actually I have much and enough to share. I just can't believe or accept the boy is not having a joy to drink just some fresh water. Wow. I once again find my life is so grateful and thankful, and ask again, Am I Available? Am I available to reach out to that boy and help him. When everyone suffers from the bad econ., and tries to save even a penny on their pocket, am I available to spend my share for those who thirst and hunger. Am I available to share? ... I better take some action.

That dirt water fond reflects nothing but the boy's darkest day. Fresh clean water will reflect a crystal clear image of the boy, and maybe he'll find his reflection is saying how great potential and bright day he has...

Actually It's not a new military weapon for Japan. It's a giant life sized Gundam statue (or Structure) that Japan has finished to build at the park. The fact that Japanese actually made this sounds funny, but in other hand I'm amazed by their efforts to have reality beyond imagination.

There are countless words and stories in the Bible that have inspired me and moved me. (And by the way, at the moment that you've read the word, Bible. Don't boo yet, because sincerely I'm writing this in my artist point of view. It might sound interesting to ya.)

One of them that I thought most artistic and fascinated me is when God walked on the earth. Here's the story from the Bible, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... and... the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. (John 1:1 and 14) Isn't it so artistic? To me, it is. Holy and invisible almighty God didn't want to stay hidden behind, but instead, he became a flesh in a figure of his own creation, stood up with his own feet, touched the ground, and he deep breathed the air into his lungs, and saw the world in his creation's eye level. He didn't stay as the Word, but became a flesh. Just like my thought becomes an art work rather than speaking about it constantly, that divine creator thought of the world, craved to be with us, and then he made himself into like one of us.

Christ was like an art work to show expression of God's love to us. Rather than speaking to us like a science thesis paper that we'll read and never understand how to get close to our creator, he showed and expressed silently at the cross. So we may feel and realize the warmth of His love and an invitation to His place.

God is a divine artist. He shared a little bit of His talent to me that I can imagine and create just like he does. I'm grateful to be an artist. Christ told stories to capture our imagination and heart. One day, I also want to capture people's imagination and heart with great stories.

Few days ago, I've saw this 50's or 60's ordinary some store business man looking guy was taking a picture of the ad about erotic expo by his cell phone. He was looking around, making sure no one's seeing him. He was acting very cautious and careful. It made me laugh. I guess he wanted to have that sexy lady picture for his cell phone display. He probably couldn't just pass by after he looked at that lady on the ad, because it captured him as he thought that lady picture may fulfill his craving. So he wanted to make it last long by taking a photo of it, and he probably kept looking at it after. What a significant man's desire. I wonder if that photo actually kept satisfying him after for a while, or he found himself it's so meaningless, and it never has fulfilled his craving for joy in life...

Addict to this one korean show...

These day, I watch this new Korean Comedy Drama, which is so addictive and hilarious. It's called, 'Queen of Housewives.' I don't really watch any Korean or American drama at all. I've felt those dramas with typical shots and stories makes me feel sick.

But this one seems different. I love the characters and casts in the drama. They are in this complicated relationship, and they make a quite interesting chemistry in the story.

Chun Ji Ae and Yang Bong Soon are high school classmates who did not have the best relationship with each other. Ji Ae was the most popular girl in school whereas Bong Soon was the girl that was always made fun of. Years later, their roles are reversed as Bong Soon's husband, Kang Joon Hyuk, is very successful whereas Ji Ae's husband, Ohn Dal Soo, is just an average company worker. Things get complicated when Dal Soo starts an extra-marital affair with his boss's wife, Eun So Hyuk.

Story and gags are very refreshing and inspiring to me, and once again makes me think how characters are important and crucial in the story.

I've tried a photoshop painting today for first time. I've came to realize how I lack in coloring and detailing with a brush meanwhile I still easily fix things (maybe cheating) with digital photoshop tools. I still need to learn so much more! I'm planning to paint for a while, I'll post up some work progresses.

27th Birthday

It was my birthday yesterday. I turned 27 years old. I've spent 7 years in 20's, and have 3 years left to go on till I hit 30's. It's little scary if I think of my youth is passing by quickly and will never come back to me. Life is alike a morning fog, which comes fast and leaves right away. But no worry yet, I know I am capable to live fully each and everyday.

I watched a new Star Trek Movie on my b-day. This quote quite stroke me,

'Live long and prosper.'

I do not know if I'll live long or short, but surely I would like to prosper in this land.

I want to share such inspiring works by my best friend, David Park. He's my formal CalArtian. There are many great artists from CalArts, but David is one of very few who actually inspired me to do art. We shared many laughs, joy, and encouragement back then. He's now studying art and worship at Fuller to become a pastor someday. He's a very talented visual artist, but hasn't recognized much by animators or artist group yet. I feel bad that people are missing such very beautiful talent...
